- Celebrating Language and
Norfolk Languages
web sites for E2BN. They use the multimedia Flash MX applications we developed for them to present interactive educational resources on foreign langauges.
The Norfolk site required a number of video files to be converted from RealMedia format to Flash Video (FLV) format. It took us quite a while to find a program which would actually convert these files. We
finally found that only Super DVD Creator, (a Windows program), could do the job.
This site (and flash program) had to support page content in
French, German and Spanish, so the web pages had to have a UTF-8 character set with the text files
used by the Flash program saved in Unicode format, so that Flash would display them correctly.
Both sites were built with the Mambo open-source CMS to keep costs down and speed up the site
development. (Each site took less than a week to build.)

- Interactive Movie Creator originally for the E2BN Myths and Legends web site.
(Flash MX 2004, PHP, Perl and XML data files.)
The design of the site and the flash application was done by Stuss.com. We developed all the technical and GUI
functionality. The application involved heavy use of Actionscript, and a Perl script was used to load/save the XML movie data from/to the server hosting it. A PHP web page called from within the Movie Creator was used to allow the uploading and use of custom graphics.

- Pathe Library, Digital Video Assets Library and Essential Resources web sites.
(All PHP4 and MySQL.)
Redeveloped these three web sites for E2BN. Created admin systems for each one in PHP4. The Pathe Library and
Video Assets Library are for multimedia (audio and video) resources. The latter was another copy of the customised
Gallery application developed for the E2BN Image Gallery. (See below.)

|
- E2BN
MMET application.
(Flash MX 2004, PHP and XML.)
A multimedia application for building and viewing projects using synchronised video, sound, images
and text. The project shows how Flash MX 2004 Professional, XML and PHP can be seamlessly integrated
together into useful feature-rich applications.
The screen grab shows the MMET Viewer application.

|
- Radio E2B. (CSS, ASP (VBSCRIPT) and SQL Server.)
Content management system interfacing with an internet radio system. (Yet to be implemented.)
In September 2004, we developed a Flash MX 2004 MP3 Player for the
Listen Now page and added ASP
code to randomly play an MP3 file. A drop-down list of existing media files was also added to allow the listener
to select another song to play.
The song details (filename and length) were passed to the MP3 Player via the 'flashVars' facility.

|
- E2BN
glossary system. (PHP and MySQL.)
Multi-purpose glossary system with different ways of viewing the entries. Also an admin page to
allow the creation, amendment and deletion of glossaries and glossary entries.
|
|
- Officejobs web site.
(PHP and MySQL.)
We developed the backend functionality of this site for Stuss.com. The functionality included
a complex job search facility, candidate registration, job application, candidate application
tracking and secure admin facilities.

-
E2BN Treasure Trail. (HTML and CSS.)
This series of web pages was developed for a mobile technology workshop to be performed at the
E2BN conference. The pages were for a 'treasure trail' excercise using XDA IIs as the display
devices and involving mobile phone interaction with people back at base on a PC accessing the Internet.
We had to make sure that the content was usable on the small screen of the XDA's, (240 by 320 pixels),
and had to be very careful with the CSS used due to some 'features' of PocketPC Internet Explorer. (ie:- Bugs.)

|
-
E2BN Network Status Page. (PHP and MySQL.)
This page was developed to allow E2BN to display information about their network and also about
the no. of schools connected in each LEA area. The information is stored in a MySQL table with
a PHP admin page to allow it to be maintained.
The graph, the blue boxes and the traffic light and associated text is displayed from 3 small PHP scripts
and incorporated into the page with iframes.

|
-
E2BN Dynamic LEA Map. (PHP, MySQL and DHTML/Javascript.)
This page fetches information about each LEA in the E2BN region and displays it in popup windows
which appear when the mouse rolls over either the map or the links in the left-hand column.
The information is retrieved from a MySQL database with PHP.

|
-
E2BN Conference Booking System. (ASP and MS Access.)
This booking system had to run on a Windows PC and use Access so that E2BN staff could easily extract
data from it or produce custom reports. It was therefore developed in ASP.
An admin page was also developed to allow them to modify delegates details and also produce a couple of predefined reports on the number of bookings, etc.

|
- E2BN Local Heroes.
(Flash MX 2004, Zoomify and XML.)
This interactive map is based on a heavily customised version of the Zoomify Flash Viewer Applet. The
ability to read XML annotation data created with the Zoomify Annotator applet was added, along with
many other features such as buttons to switch labels on or off and drop-down menus to automatically
zoom in to specific locations.
A form to allow visitors to submit their own local heroes and a simple Content Management System (CMS) was
also developed in PHP interfaced to a MySQL database. This allow the creation of content
which the labels on the dynamic map linked to.
The Zoomify Annotator was also customised slightly and several new types of labels were added, so
that it could be used for different purposes.

|
- E2BN Gallery.
(PHP and flat files.)
This site is a heavily customised version of the open-source package Gallery.
The gallery
application was embedded inside a small web site, the top-level index was made muli-column, a
Flash Slideshow option was added along with the ability to view large high-quality images with
a special Zoomify Viewer page.
|
|
- E2BN Online Ordering Catalogue.
(PHP and MySQL.)
This site is a customised version of the open-source package 'osCommerce'. The admin system was made
multi-vendor and suppliers could only see and amend their own products. The shopping cart was altered to
reflect the different way E2BN worked with suppliers and schools.
|
|
- Hyperworld.
(Javascript, ASP (JSCRIPT) and SQL Server.)
An educational site with many flash activities. (Developed by Actis Ltd.) We developed many of the database
search facilities, user registration facilities, etc. Also admin systems for schools, students, links and
site resources.

UK Surveillance Multimedia Messaging Services.
In late 2003, we started developing this new site for UK Surveillance Ltd. It was written
in XHTML 1.0 and CSS2 for fast download and standards compliance. The members area was then developed
in PHP4 and driven by a MySQL database. Further development was done during early 2004. A similar
site was also developed on a Linux server built by us for the client. This interfaced with some custom-written
mail and SMS processing perl scripts, as well as a MySQL database.
